A sudden breakdown is stressful, especially in traffic or at night. The goal is to protect people first, then arrange the right help. This guide stays high-level: if anyone is injured or the scene is immediately dangerous, contact emergency services.
When the vehicle can be moved a short distance, prioritize a safer position away from active lanes. If it cannot move, stay aware of traffic and wait for professional roadside or towing support.
Make the Scene Safer
Turn on hazard lights as soon as it is safe to do so. If you can reach a shoulder, parking lot or side street without creating a new hazard, do that before troubleshooting.
Do not stand behind the vehicle in live traffic or walk into travel lanes to inspect damage. Keep passengers together and away from passing vehicles when a safer waiting spot exists.
When to Call Emergency Services
- Anyone is injured or medical help is needed
- The vehicle is on fire or leaking unknown fluids onto a hot surface
- You are blocking a high-speed lane and cannot safely exit
- A collision involved other vehicles and police attendance is required
Decide Between Roadside Help and Towing
Some problems can be handled on site when access is safe: weak batteries, flat tires with a usable spare, empty fuel tanks and lockouts. Mechanical failures, collision damage or failed roadside attempts usually need transport.
TowDaddy provides light- and medium-duty flatbed towing for eligible vehicles and equipment within capacity. Heavy-duty towing is not available.

Information to Share With Dispatch
Exact location, vehicle year/make/model, the symptom and access notes (underground parking, gated lots, highway shoulder) help assign the right provider. Photos can clarify loading conditions when towing may be required.
Next Actions
If the vehicle is safe to approach and the problem looks like a common roadside issue, start with roadside assistance. If the vehicle cannot be driven or the roadside attempt fails, request eligible flatbed towing to a repair facility or other approved destination.
